Floods Hit Accra... Korle-Bu Accident Center Closed

About 10 households were evacuated by the Greater Accra Anti-Flood Committee at Teshie-Tafo, a suburb of Accra, after the area was heavily flooded following a six-hour down pour yesterday.

Other affected areas included Alajo, Sampa Valley, Sowutuom, Banana Inn, Mataheko and Otojor, all in Accra. The chairman of the committee, Mr. Godfrey Ewool, said these when he briefed the Regional Minister, Sheikh I. C. Quaye, on the situation after the rain.

He said there was no casualty in areas visited because people took precautionary measures before the onset of the rain. Commenting on the extent of damage to property as a result of the flood, Mr. Ewool said, “We have not evaluated it but some properties have been destroyed”.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF ACCIDENT CENTRE

The CE of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Prof. K. Frimpong, has announced the closure of the Accident Centre due to the stormy rainfall on the night of 14th April, 2003.

“The accident centre has therefore been closed down till further notice”. All accident cases, he said, should be sent to other hospitals within the metropolis and no referral cases should be sent there.

Prof. Frimpong appealed to the public to bear with them as they endeavour to resolve issues, adding that as soon as they tidy the place and clean up the equipment, the place will be opened for normal duties.
