The General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress(TUC), Kofi Asamoah, has called on government to find possible ways of cushioning Ghanaians against the prevailing harsh economic conditions.

The depreciation of the cedi he says has scathingly affected standards of living government needed to rise to the challenge.

“Government will have to look at indexing the public sector wages to the prevailing dollar rate in Ghana. Ghanaian workers are suffering too much in recent times,” Asamoah told Fiifi Banson in an interview on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM.

His comment was on the back of a recent hike in utility and fuel prices, announced ahead of July 1 by the Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission (PURC).

Meanwhile the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has served notice it will resist any further “unreasonable increases” in utility and fuel prices.
