Fetish priest jailed 20 years for rape

Kumasi, June 13, GNA - A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced a 42-year-old fetish priest Kwaku Baah to 20 years imprisonment in hard labour on his own plea for raping a 20-year-old teacher at Ahwiaa near Kumasi.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Archibald Kwesi Fandoh told the court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Amo Yartey that during the morning of November 16, 2008 the complainant visited her friend called Antwi at Ahwiaa but did not meet him.

He said on her return, she met five men including the accused sitting in an uncompleted building.

Police Chief Inspector Fandoh said, the accused called the complainant and convinced her that she had been bewitched and could never give birth but he (accused) could assist her to drive away the evil spirits.

Prosecution said the accused lured her to his house and gave the complainant some concoction to bath after which the accused showed her a room to dress up but no sooner had the complainant entered the room, the accused rushed in and raped her.

He said the complainant reported the matter to the police, who arrested the accused and after investigations charged with the offence. 13 June 09
