Fatau Dauda should stop blaming Mitre balls - Appiah

The sole agent for the Mitre balls in Ghana, Joseph Yaw Appiah, has condemned claims by Ashgold goalkeeper Fatau Dauda that the Mitre balls being used in the GPL are of low quality.

The condemnation comes at the back of Dauda jumping to the defense of Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Soulama Abdoulaye’s howler against Asante Kotoko on the supposed poor quality of the Mitre ball being the cause of their defeat.

Meanwhile, checks have revealed that the Mitre balls used in the Ghana league are Grade 3 products, which are of lower quality compared to the Grade 1 match-ball used in the Scottish Premier League and the South Africa League.

“It is the fastest FIFA approved match ball, in London, they are using it. If he is not a good goalkeeper and conceding goals he should not attribute to the ball.

"He should approach the FA to vent his spleen and not the ball; moreover he is not the only player using the Mitre ball," Appiah told Starr Sports.

"Mitre has been producing footballs over two centuries and even in the UK, SA they are using the same ball”, he added.

However, some coaches like David Duncan have also raised questions of the quality of the ball and the FA is being tasked to independently investigate the concerns.
