Ex-Ghanair Security Operative Accuses Army of Harassment

A former Security operative of Ghana Airways, Mr.Ola Durojaiye has accused the Ghana Army of harassment.

In a petition to President J.A. Kufuor recently, Ola Durojaiye alleged that following a publication in this paper in December 2002 by some unknown persons against him, he was informed that the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) was after him.

Durojaiye said when he made himself available to the BNI voluntarily for interrogation; he was cleared and subsequently returned to his London base.

Durojaiye said in his petition that one WOI Christian Manu, on the instructions of Brigadier Adu-Amanfo, Director of Defence Intelligence threatened him with arrest. "As if that was not enough, on 4th March, 2003, I was arrested and sent to the Airport Police Station by WOI Christian Manu and another Staff Sergeant I do not know, for impersonating a Colonel of the Ghana Armed Forces," Durojaiye said.

The petition, which was copied to the Defence Minister, Chief of Staff, Chief of Defence Staff, the Inspector General of Police among several other officials of state said the matter of impersonation has been dealt with by the BNI and Defence Intelligence.

Durojaiye again claims that his step-father, one Staff Sergeant Danquah has also been invited by Defence Intelligence officers for interrogation on the same matter.

He said, even though he sought clearance from the Airport Police to send his eight year old disabled son to London to resume school, operatives of the Military Police and Defence Intelligence attempted to arrest him on a Ghanair aircraft which was unsuccessfully as he left the plane undetected after having a hint of the operation.

He said his son was kept by the Airport security leaving him traumatised.
