Envoy reports in Botswana

Maureen Amematekpor of Ghana and representatives from four other countries presented their letters of credence and commission to President Festus Mogae of Botswana at the State House on Tuesday.

The four are ambassadors Hans?Dietrich Von Bothmer of Germany; Javier De Vides of Spain; Jorio Filho of Brazil; and Zambian High Commissioner, Cecil Holmes. Welcoming the representatives, Mogae underscored the cordial relations that their countries have enjoyed with Botswana.

Mogae appreciated the contribution, which Ghanaians continue to make to the socio-economic development of Botswana.

"We are grateful that currently Ghana has provided places for some of our students to train in the field of medicine".

He said Botswana has enjoyed working with Ghana on many issues important to the development of the continent, adding that the latter played an important role in the formation of the Global Coalition for Africa (GCA).

Earlier, the ambassadors and high commissioners welcomed the friendly reception into Botswana. They applauded the country for upholding the rule of law, democratic principles, for its enviable human rights record as well as efforts taken to bring peace and stability in the SADC region.

High Commissioner for Ghana, Amematekpor said she was looking forward to help strengthen economic relations between her country and Botswana for the countries to face the globalisation phenomenon.

Out of the five representatives three are based outside the country. Amematekpor and De Vides of Spain reside in Windhoek, Namibia while Jorio Filho of Brazil stays in Pretoria, South Africa.
