Election Petition: The battle is the Lord’s – Akufo-Addo

The 2012 Presidential Candidate of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said the Lord will fight the “battle” for the petitioners in the presidential results challenge trial.

On Tuesday July 30, 2013, the date set by the Supreme Court for the legal teams of the petitioners and respondents to file their addresses, Nana Akufo-Addo, who is the first petitioner wrote on his official facebook page that: “The Battle is the Lord’s”.

The former Attorney General also expressed gratitude to the petitioners’ legal team for handling the case.

“We are eternally grateful to the lawyers and the supporting staff for their excellent service to party and country,” he said.

The Supreme Court resumes on Wednesday to receive the addresses filed by the two sides and to also set a date for the delivery of judgment.

The nine-member Bench led by Justice William Atuguba is likely to deliver judgment within a month after receipt of the addresses from both sides.

Nana Akufo-Addo, his running mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the party’s national Chairman Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey went to the court to challenge the results on grounds that the 2012 general elections were fraught with irregularities.

The respondents in the case are President John Mahama, the Electoral Commission and the governing National Democratic Congress.
