Dutch business tycoon made chief

A FORTY-two year-old Dutch business tycoon, Arthur Kofi Paes, has been installed Ngoryiyifia (Development Chief) of the Somey Traditional Area in the Ketu District of the Volta Region.

At a colourful ceremony which showcased the rich culture of the area and witnessed by a large number of chiefs and people, including foreigners, Torgbui Dunenyo I, swore the oath of allegiance to Torgbui Hor II, the Makorsor of Somey.

The new chief assured the people of his determination to initiate and support viable development projects in the area. According to him, education and mechanised agriculture will be his immediate focus, in addition to industries, to generate employment for the youth.

Torgbui Dunenyo set the tone for his development agenda by donating ?30 million for the commencement of work on a technical institute.

Torgbui Hor II, paramount chief of Somey Traditional Area, described the installation of Torgbui Dunenyo as the opening of a fresh chapter in the history of Somey.

He called for co-operation among his chiefs and appealed to his people to support the development plans outlined for the area.
