Legon Confers Doctorate Degree On Asantehene

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene was presented with an honourary doctorate degree by the University of Ghana at a special congregation on Friday, March 12.

A source at the University of Ghana confirmed that the Asantehene was honoured in recognition of his tremendous contribution to education, particularly in the setting up of the Otumfuo Education Fund, which has benefited several thousands of students through out the country.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu, according to the source, was also honoured for his efforts at revitalizing the chieftaincy institutions and bringing chieftaincy abreast with contemporary development.

The award of the honourary degree was also an acknowledgment of Otumfuo?s contribution to alternative dispute resolution.Otumfuo Osei was sworn-in on May 6, 1999 as the 16th occupant of the Golden Stool and 19th King of the land of Gold.
