Dormaa Council of Churches speaks against mushroom churches

Dormaa Ahenkro (B/A) Jan. 1 GNA - Dormaa Ahenkro Council of Churches, has deplored the rate at which prayer camps in the Municipality are being transformed into fully-fledged churches without laid down procedures. Rev. Felix John Yeboah, Council Chairman, who made the observation at the council's 10th anniversary get -together at Dormaa Ahenkro, noted that the practice was gradually depleting the membership of particularly the Orthodox and Pentecostal churches.

He explained that some of prayer camps attract members through the insatiable pledges they make.

While acknowledging the right to freedom of worship and association as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution, Rev. Yeboah noted that such freedoms ought to be enjoyed with responsibility in order not to lead society, particularly the youth astray.

He appealed to the leadership of Church in the municipality to intensify their evangelisation programmes and expand their social responsibilities to retain commitment among members. The council chairman advised the youth who had defected to the "pray-for-me churches" to be tactful not to fall prey to any fraudster turned prophets. Rev. Yeboah called on the council to forge closer co-ordination in their quest to enhance the spiritual and material well-being of their members. He called for a boost in State-Church partnership to ensure protection for the laws and conventions that govern the practice of religion in the country. 1 Jan. 10
