Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has encouraged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) John Kudalor not to kowtow to pressures from politicians in the country in the upcoming general elections.

The Asante King urged him to be strict and firm in the delivery of his duties and not yield to their whims and caprices.

He advised the IGP to focus on protecting the citizenry than doing the bidding of political parties.

‘The Ghana Police Service (GPS) was not set up to do the bidding of politicians, as an IGP, you and your men should be neutral.

"You need to protect the citizenry, the country so that peace will prevail, the police should work hand in hand with the citizens to build confidence in police officers, if the security of the country is shaken, citizens will not have peace to go about their duties,’ he entreated.

The Otumfuo gave the advice when the IGP paid a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia palace in Kumasi.

Ultimate News’ Isaac Bediako reports that the Otumfuo praised the IGP on his appointment by the President John Dramani Mahama.

The Asantehene advised the IGP to advice his officers to stand by the truth no matter the circumstances.

He entreated the electorates to exercise their franchise devoid of mayhem on the elections day.

‘During every election, people get agitated, why must it be so, why kill ourselves all in the name of power. The police should be able to protect the ballot boxes during the elections day, the stealing of ballot boxes should cease,’ the Asante King entreated.
