Director Of Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park Denies Allegations

The Director of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Nana Sripi Otubua the second has explained how an amount of two thousand dollars donated to the park was expanded.

His explanation follows allegations of impropriety being levelled against him by some workers of the park. He denied that an Accra-based radio station Radio Gold donated 5.5 million cedis to the park, explaining that the station only paid for bulbs for the re-enactment of Ghana's Independence for this year and year 2001.

The cost of the bulbs for the two-years is estimated at 2.5 million cedis. Nana Otubua said the $2,000 donated by some Pan Africanists was used in paying the salaries of workers, which had been delayed and the remaining used for maintenance works at the park.

Nana Sripi Otubua who could not give the amount involved in the maintenance work, said the subvention that the park receives from the National Commission on Culture is insufficient and is always delayed.
