Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan is backing his international teammate Andre Ayew to win the 2015 African Footballer of the Year award.

Ayew, 26, is enjoying a fabulous run since joining ambitious English side Swansea City with five goals in 11 appearances so far.

The Ghana international is among a tall list of 10 players who have been shortlisted for the top individual award after a breathtaking year.

He inspired the Black Stars to a silver medal feat during the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations where he emerged the goal king with three goals.

And Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan is backing his compatriot to follow in the footsteps of his famous father Abedi Pele.

“We are all behind him (Ayew) he is making Ghana proud right now because he is the only Ghanaian in the list, as a Ghanaian Andre has done well and i believe all of them deserve to win it,” Gyan told Starr FM

The Shanghai SIPG attacker was equally disappointed over Christian Atsu’s snub.

“I was disappointed Atsu didn’t make the shortlist because he was voted the 2015 AFCON Player of the tournament but things happen, he concluded.

Andre must fend off competition from favourite Yaya Toure to clinch the top individual award during the gala on January 7, 2016 in Nigeria.
