Nungua win Jubilee Homowo match

Accra, July 8, GNA - Nungua Town Eleven defeated their Teshie counterparts 2-1 to win the Golden Jubilee Homowo Challenge Soccer match played at the Nungua Presbyterian Park on Saturday.

The match which formed part of activities marking the celebrations of this year's Homowo festival, saw Nungua opening the scoring through Accra Hearts of Oak's striker, Bernard Don Bortey in the 30th minute when he converted a penalty kick after he was brought down in the box. Nungua continued their pressure on their opponents and got the second goal in the 39th minute through Ataa Annang whose low grounder beat goalkeeper Ben Mensah in posts for Teshie.

The Teshie team after the recess, put their acts together and managed to score a goal in the 54th minute through Alan Shearer to reduce the goal tally.

Mr Fred Pappoe, Vice President of the Ghana Football Association presented the trophy to captain Don Bortey of Nungua Town Eleven. Dr (Mrs) Gladys Ashitey, Deputy Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku who donated the trophy said it was to be competed for by the two teams.

She said she hoped the trophy would be used to cement the cordial relations especially between the youth of the two communities and to build on the cultural aspects of the people. Teshie will next host Nungua in a similar match at Teshie in mid-August.
