DONATION TO KORLE-BU

The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr.. John Schram, handed over a cheque for ?53 million to the University of Ghana Medical School at a ceremony in Accra. The amount was realised from this year's Terry Fox run organised to raise the funds for research into Burkitt's Lymphoma a form of cancer that affects children in the West African Sub-region. Mr.. Schram said, although the organisers of the Run targeted 40million cedis, they have been able to exceed this by 13 million cedis. He expressed his gratitude to individuals and companies who donated to the programme, saying their gesture shows that private individuals can play a role in government's effort at seeing to the well being of Ghanaians. The Dean of the Medical School, Professor Samuel Owusu, expressed gratitude to the organisers of the Terry Fox Run and all those who contributed to the success of the programme. The Terry Fox Run is held annually in remembrance of the struggle of a courageous Canadian to prove that physically disabled people can succeed and contribute to society. End
