Cuban Official Praises Nkrumah

Accra, (Greater Accra) 15 Sept.,

Mr. Jorges Risquet Valdes, a member of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party, today described DR Kwame Nkrumah as one of the greatest men of this century. He told the Ghana News Agency just after laying a wreath at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum that Nkrumah's ideas and leadership were instrumental in the struggle for emancipation not rpt not only in Africa, but also in other countries of the Third World. Mr. Risquet is in Accra at the head of a seven-member delegation for an Africa-Cuba Solidarity Conference scheduled for Cape Coast between September 18 and 20. The conference has on its agenda the Helms-Burton law passed by the United States Congress which has led to a blockade against Cuba. "We share the same cause that Nkrumah stood for,'' Mr. Valdes said, adding that Cubans have shed their blood in Africa against racism, apartheid and colonialism. Mr. Risquet said the shedding of Cuban blood on the continent was nurtured by the ideals of Nkrumah. He said fortunately, President Jerry Rawlings is continuing with the ideas of Nkrumah. The delegation spent over an hour touring the Mausoleum.
