Clearance Of Consignment At KIA Improves Significantly

The Executive Director of the Ghana Community Network (GCNET), Mr. Emmanuel Darko has disclosed that with the introduction of GCNET at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), clearance time for goods has improved quite significantly.

He revealed that the fastest clearance time recorded for someone to clear his consignment is 45 minutes. Speaking at a sensitization seminar on GCNET for Ghanaian Exporters, Mr. Darko said, the manual model that was initially being used was fraught with problems. And this sometimes, even resulted in the loss of some valuable data.

He also stated that GCNET, which is an electronic medium for the processing of trade and customs documents, has helped in the decline of some of these problems. Mr Darko also stated that GCNET started with CEPS and is currently on-going at KIA. He said plans are far advanced to extend GCNET system operations at Tema, Takoradi, Elubo and Aflao Borders.

On his part, the Executive Secretary of the Ghana Export Promotion Council (GEPC), Mr. Edward Boateng, whose speech was read on his behalf said, the seminar is to provide a forum for the export business community who are being introduced to the new system to air their concerns.

He also stated that the GCNET system will enhance exporters’ competitiveness in this globalised economic trade, and therefore urged the business community to embrace it with all seriousness.
