Civil servants bare teeth

Accra, April 1, GNA - The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Civil Servant Association (CSA) on Tuesday called on government, as matter of urgency to conclude negotiations for the enhanced salaries for civil servants by April 30, 2008.

The group also urged government to respect the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the payment of salary arrears to civil servants without any further delay.

In a resolution adopted at the 24th Session of the NEC meeting of the association at Bunso in the Eastern Region the group urged government to cease the deduction of tax arrears when no new salary had been paid and all other wrongful deductions refunded to affected workers without delay.

The group demanded the immediate release of funds for the 2006 Medical Refund facility of GH¢ 600,000 that was totally withdrawn as well as release the 2007 balance of GH¢ 400,000.

They appealed also to government to revamp and resource neglected Civil Service organizations, including the Department of Community Development, Cooperatives and Social Welfare that had become less productive to make them more viable.

The group said it was giving the government up to April 30, 2008 to address their concerns to maintain the industrial peace and harmony that had existed between them or the association would advise itself. The group called on its members to remain resolute, steadfast and committed to the course of the Association and to disregard the misinformation from the local government workers union of TUC that the Association would no longer exist at the district level with the coming into force of the new Local Government Service.
