The Ministry of Health has confirmed that 157 cholera cases have been reported in the Central regional capital, Cape Coast.

Addressing the media in Accra on Wednesday, the Director of Public Health, Dr. Badu Sarkodie stated that despite the huge number of people infected, no death has been recorded since the outbreak on October 21.

Starr News reported on Monday that the cholera outbreak in the Central region was getting worse as more people were being rushed to various hospitals for treatment.

According to Dr. Sarkodie, the national rapid response team has been dispatched to assist the region to fight the outbreak.

He added that the Ministry together with the Ghana Health Service has also activated their surveillance schemes to deal with any suspected case.

The Cape Coast metropolis was one of the areas worst hit by the disease in 2014.

It recorded 2,182 cholera cases with over 20 deaths.
