Chiefs and Queenmothers are not idol worshippers -Jachiehene

Jachie (Ash), Sept 19, GNA - Baffour Amoateng III, Jachiehene and a linguist of the Asantehene, has said the impression carried by some people that chiefs and queenmothers were idol worshippers was erroneous.

He said such misconception should be an issue of the past since most of the country's traditional rulers were now Christians. Baffour Amoateng was speaking at the Diamond Jubilee celebration of the Saint Andrews Anglican parish at Jachie in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district.

He asked traditional rulers to help in disabusing the minds of people of the misconception by supporting activities aimed at spreading the gospel.

Baffour Amoateng urged parents to attend church activities with their children to enable them to acquire ethics to help them to become useful citizens.

Dr Samuel Adubofour, vice principal of Christian Service College in Kumasi, called on Christians to desist from ungodliness. He said drunkenness; litigation, corruption, fornication and other social vices were gradually destroying the Ghanaian society. Dr Adubofour appealed to Christians to support the clergy in their work and to deny themselves of earthly pleasures and accept Christ as their saviour.

The Reverend Father Samuel Agyekum of the Parish said the Jachie Church had received a 60 million-cedi pipe organ donated by Miss Veronica Appau, a Jachie citizen based in Holland.

He thanked Miss Appau for the donation and asked other people from the town to contribute to the development of Church.

As part of activities marking the celebration, members of the Church organised a clean up exercise in the town.

They also attended a talk on breast cancer, family planning and other health related issues organised by the Pramso Catholic Hospital.
