Chief commends Jerry Rawlings on UN appointment

The Abontsindomhene of Abeadze Traditional Area in the Central Region, Nana Nketiah Afful, has commended Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings on his appointment by the United Nations as an Eminent Person on Volunteerism.

Nana Afful said it was gratifying that the former president's commitment to basic health issues had been recognised by an august body like the United Nations.

Speaking to the GNA at Mankessim on Tuesday, the chief said the decision of Flt. Lt. Rawlings to direct his attention on malaria and HIV/AIDS regarded as Africa's number one killers were laudable.

He urged Ghanaians not to play politics with the former head of state's new assignment but give him the necessary support to make his work a success.

We must lead the crusade he will launch by observing a clean environmental sanitation and by avoiding indiscriminate and unprotected sex.

Nana Afful said the success of Flt. Lt. Rawlings' assignment would be measured by how malaria and HIV/AIDS infections in Ghana are reduced.
