Cattle destroy farms

Nkoranza(B/A), July 24, GNA - A herd of cattle, owned by some Fulani herdsmen, which have settled at Pienyina in the Nkoranza district, are giving the people a lot of problems, destroying their farms with impunity.

The assemblyman of the area, Mr Kwaku Obeng, told the Ghana News Agency that it is suspected that that it was the same Fulani herdsmen who sometime ago settled at Dromankee and caused a lot of problems with their animals.

The presence of the animals in the area has also affected school attendance as pupils from nearby villages who walk to attend the Pruso number two local primary school run back to their homes on sighting the animals.

Mr Obeng therefore appealed to the Nkoranza district assembly to investigate the matter and ensure the proper settlement or the withdrawal of the herdsmen and their cattle from the area to let the people live in peace.

In another development, the people of Gyedu number one and Pienyina have appealed to the government to rehabilitate the 15-kilometre feeder road that links the area with Dromankese to facilitate the carting of foodstuffs from the area to the marketing centres.

The inhabitants of the area are noted for the cultivation of yams, maize, rice, groundnuts, millet and cowpea.

Mr Obeng complained that as a result of the poor nature of the road, a lot of foodstuffs get rotten, especially during the rainy season.
