Canadian NGO supports health project

Nkoranza (B/A), June 22, GNA -- A Canadian Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Mater Care International, has launched a three-year programme to enhance the safe motherhood and child-care project established at the St. Theresa's hospital at Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo region.

The NGO will provide financial and logistic support towards the project for the communities to manage it under the supervision of the District Health Management Team (DHMT). Dr Stephen Opoku, Medical Officer in Charge, told the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza on Monday that the project would enable the hospital to train all TBAs serving in the district. |

They would also be equipped with the right techniques in dealing with ante-natal, delivery and post-natal cases.

Dr Opoku said under the project, all TBA's serving in the communities would be equipped with the right techniques to deal with ante-natal, delivery and post-natal cases.

He said a blood bank would be established at the hospital while a special laboratory would be built. Dr.Opoku said six health sub-districts would be provided with a solar powered lighting plant and communication system to enhance operations.

He mentioned the beneficiary communities as Akuma, Kwabeng, Yefre, Donkro-Nkwanta, Dromakese and Nkoranza.
