CPP urges gov't to be result-oriented

Kumasi, Jan.3, GNA - The Convention People's Party (CPP) has called on the government to desist from the frequent quotation of figures as economic progress of the country and seek to implement quick result-oriented policies that will ensure "food in the bellies and money in the pockets" of the suffering masses in the country.

"Like its predecessor, the ruling government is a hydra-headed octopus that veers and barks, depending on the prevailing economic and political atmosphere and only oscillates, flounders and hopes for the best without exploring permanent solutions to our real problems," Mr Akwasi Bosompem Boateng, Ashanti Regional Secretary of the party, stated on Tuesday. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi to comment on the expectations of Ghanaians in the New Year, Mr Boateng explained that the frequent strikes in both terms of the NPP government were a clear proof of its inability to change worst situations for the electorate. He said the NPP had not produced programmes and policies markedly different from the NDC regime since the government's plans and directions continued to rely on the pockets of reluctant foreign donors who attached very unfavourable strings to their offers.

The CPP, he said was calling on the electorate, especially young men and women to critically examine their living conditions from 1992, analyse them and draw inspiration from the new CPP, under Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom and rally behind activities and programmes of the party, adding that, "with Dr Nduom as flagbearer and Mr Ladi Nylander as chairman of CPP, there is no surprise too much for organised Nkrumaist to pull". Mr Boateng said after years of searching, discerning voters now had the most suitable alternative in the person of Dr Nduom to choose in the 2008 elections.

He called on all leading members who contested and lost at the party's national congress not to be worried but instead bring their talents, achievements and support together, by accepting positions and responsibilities that might be assigned them by the leadership of the party.

Mr Boateng also called on the Ghanaian youth neither to sell their conscience nor strength to any group or individual for acts that could bring any unreasonable chaos and mayhem, before, during and after this year's general elections.
