CPP is 59 years

The CPP is 59 years – A Time to reflect and work Harder.

Some 59 years ago in the little town of Salt Pond, there was declared the formation of the CPP as the vanguard of the People in their quest to fight and achieve political and economic independence. Lo and behold, 6th March 1957 came. Truly the CPP led by Dr Kwame Nkrumah pronounced “Ghana your beloved country is free for ever.” As a country we were set upon the task of attaining economic independence to give true meaning to the whole struggle and revolution. Of course, we made giant strides attaining $600 per capita GDP and over $3 minimum wage by 1966 where as today we are trailing around $300 per capita and a minimum wage of $2.24.

Unfortunately, the nation wreckers did not go to sleep, they stayed awake and worked to truncate our forward march on the 24th February, 1966. From that day to the year 2000, the CPP was proscribed by law, properties of the Party seized including its headquarters, regional and constituency offices which were all built through the sweat and toil of loyal members as well as personal belongings of Party activists.

For all these years our story has not been told and that situation has given undue opportunity to liars and intellectually dishonest people to spread falsehood about the CPP, its founder and twist Ghana’s political history. We have a story to tell but we can best do it by capturing power to make right the wrongs that have beset our nation today.

It’s important in this year to remind ourselves of the leading role the youth played in the CPP both as a welfare party and an election machine that won all successive elections from 1951 till it was overthrown illegally. We hold dear the aspirations of the masses and provided opportunity for all in the past without regard to tribe, gender, social status and religion. There were jobs to engage the youth who had gone through training and skill acquisition. The youth had values to learn from and there abound living examples of hard work that we could emulate. The story today is a sad one. Perhaps, if the real designer and architect of the nation Ghana had completed building the house we would have been better than we are now.

Yet each new hour holds new chances for new beginnings. We have yet another opportunity to put Ghana back on track by electing the CPP into office to govern.

This situation places a huge responsibility on us as members of the CPP to lead the way for Ghana’s prosperity. This is the time to rededicate ourselves to the cause for which the CPP was formed. We have to remain disciplined, sincere with the people and focused on the set goal of making no one want in the basic means to life; food, health, education, shelter and jobs. We call on our leadership to show the way and draw all members along for victory awaits us. Let the youth and women rise again and fight for Ghana’s economic independence. The youth of Ghana must rise and take their destiny into their hands by reclaiming the CPP; the Party that has always represented their interest.

As we mark this year, let all members set our minds to capturing power by December so that our Diamond Jubilee next year could be celebrated in a grand style.
