The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has deployed a total of 250 observers nationwide to observe the conduct of the 2016 Limited Voter Registration exercise by the Electoral Commission, which begins Thursday, April 28, 2016.

The observers will be in all the 216 districts across the country and will observe both the first and second phases of the exercise which will end on Sunday, May 8, 2016.

The exercise forms part of the Coalition’s comprehensive observation of this year’s election.

The observers will observe proceedings at registration centers, including the opening of the centers, the availability of registration materials and functioning of equipment, the conduct of election officials, compliance to registration rules and proceedings as captured in C.I. 91 and turnout for the exercise.

The Coalition in a statement signed and released by its National Coordinator, CODEO, Albert Arhin, Wednesday, said it shall share its observation findings on the exercise with the public.

It has therefore, wants the Electoral Commission (EC) to intensify publicity on the exercise, particularly, on the modalities for the exercise.

It has also entreated the political parties and Ghanaians to refrain from acts that can negatively affect the smooth conduct of the exercise.

CODEO further wants all media houses and stakeholders to also support public education about the registration exercise.

That aside, it wants qualified Ghanaians, especially, the youth to show up and register during the period of the exercise.
