C4.5 billion released for road projects in August

Accra, Sept. 26, GNA - Government released 4.6 billion cedis to the Ministry of Road Transport to execute road projects throughout the country in August 2005.

A statement issued on Monday from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning said the amount has brought total releases to the sector for the year to 335.4 billion cedis.

It said the projects included the construction of feeder roads and rehabilitation of roads and bridges.

The statement said in addition to this amount, Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Fund releases to the Department of Feeder Roads as at the end of August totalled 54.2 billion cedis. For the Ghana High Authority, total releases as at the end of August 2005 totalled 237.8 billion cedis.

The statement said the Kpando-Worawora-Dambai road; the dual carriage Achimota - Ofankor road; Tamale - Yendi; Ofankor - Nsawam; Tema - Sogakope and Wenchi - Bamboi were some of the roads that benefited from the releases.
