Buttner likens 'pacy' Acheampong to Valencia

Former Manchester United defender Alexander Buttner has likened his Anderlecht teammate and Ghana midfielder Frank Acheampong to the Red Devils winger Antonio Valencia.

Acheampong, 22, stole the headlines last week when his extra-time brace earned Anderlecht a 2-1 win over Greek side Olympiacos to qualify into the last 16 of the Europa League.

“[Frank] Acheampong has such an amazing pace. I played together with Antonio Valencia at Manchester United. I would never have thought to find someone as fast as him at any other team. Their pace is very important in modern football,” Buttner told La Derniere.

“Frank told me he is so happy to play with me on the left wing. It is right we find each other even blindfold. He also has experience as a left defender. I am sure our left wing will be a dangerous weapon for the rest of the season.”

Buttner spent two seasons with Manchester United before joining Dynamo Moscow on a three-year deal in 2014. He was loaned out to Anderlecht in January.
