Tamale, May 23, GNA- A 22-year-old butcher, Mumuni Mannah, a resident of "Ward K" a suburb of Tamale had been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in hard labour by a Tamale High Court for rape.

The State Attorney Salia Albdul-Qudus, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Justice Simon Suurabareh that on the 19th of January this year, the complainant Vida Kanlo travelled and left her daughter, the 22-year-old victim to take care of her drinking spot at "Ward K".

He said Mumuni, who is a regular customer at the drinking spot came over and bought a bottle of "Fanta" and was served by the victim. The Prosecutor said the convict after drinking his "Fanta" went to the victim, covered her mouth with one hand, preventing the victim from crying out for help.

He then tore the victims dress and under wear and without any consent from the victim forcibly had sex with her.

The State Attorney said the mother of the victim who is the complainant returned from her journey and the victim reported the incident to her who later reported to the Tamale police. Mumuni was arrested and charged with one count of rape and was arraigned before the Tamale High Court where he was on Tuesday jailed. 23 May 07
