Brong Ahafo chiefs appreciate new university

Sunyani, March 5, GNA - The Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs on Friday expressed appreciation to the government for the sod-cutting ceremon= y performed by President John Evans Atta Mills, to commence work on the University of Energy and Natural Resources in the region. At a press conference addressed by Osahene Kwaku Aterkyi II, Paramount Chief of Kukuom and President of the house said: 93Nananom and the people of this region see the establishment of the university as a challenge and are ready to commit the resources at our disposal to improve the lot of the institution."

The house however proposed that the university campuses should be spread evenly in the region as against what was originally proposed. Flanked by Pemampem Yaw Kagbrese V, Yejihene and Vice-president of the house and other members, Osahene Aterkyi said the university would not only improve education but also boost major economic activities in the region. He said the project was no doubt a major and timely offer in the history of the region, which would go a long way to reduce the problems associated with access to tertiary education faced by the youth in the area= .. Osahene Aterkyi reiterated that the chiefs and people were still committed to their promise of providing adequate land and space 93for this laudable project and many others to come".

In response to a question, Osahene Aterkyi expressed the hope that the government would not convert the already established Faculty of Forest Resources Technology of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Sunyani campus as part of the yet-to-be established university.
