Brochure gaffe: Ghana worse than “banana republic” – Tarzan

Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby

The former Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby aka Tarzan has labelled the dismissal of the acting head of the Information Services Department (ISD) Francis Kwarteng as a failed attempt to cover up wrong doing.

A statement from the Presidency on Thursday announced the immediate removal of the man who accepted responsibility for embarrassing errors in the independence anniversary brochure which triggered nationwide anger.

The statement further mentioned that the Communications Ministry would assume responsibility for conveying messages from the Presidency to the public.

But speaking in an interview on Starr Today, Dr. Wereko-Brobby stated that the move is a veiled attempt to shield the real culprits.

Dr. Wereko Brobby who oversaw Ghana’s 50th Independence Celebrations told host Bernard Nasara Saibu that attempts to shake things up at the Flagstaff House is even more embarrassing.

“The statement issued is incomplete…the whole attempt to cover things up, 23 years after a liberated and a very sophisticated media and people actually adds to the embarrassment.

“I expected a swift statement on Monday to apologise to President Uhuru and other invited guests, we apologise to the people of Ghana and we hope and we pledge that such an embarrassment does not occur again...We are worse than a banana republic,” Dr. Wereko-Brobby said.
