Best Poultry Farmer Donates ?150m Building to School

THE NATIONAL Best Poultry Farmer for 2000, Mr. Stephen Yaw Obuor, has donated a building costing ?150 million to Chiraa Secondary School in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The building, which contains 10 rooms, is to serve as girls' hostel for the school since the school lacks accommodation for its students.

Speaking to the Chronicle, Obuor contended that, the building was purposely built to be used as a guest house but regarding the lack of accommodation for students in the school, he decided to donate it to the school to alleviate the problems of students having to travel long distances to school.

He, however, appealed to the government to provide the school with a bore-hole to serve as a source of water for the school since students had to walk long distances in search of water.

This, he noted, hampers effective learning as students get to school rather late.

Obuor further urged the students to take their books seriously to enhance national development.

The headmaster of Chiraa Secondary School, Mr. Adu Saforo, revealed that, following the increased enrolment of students, the boys' dormitory was converted into classrooms to accommodate the increasing admissions.

He, therefore, called on government to come to the aid of the school by providing more classrooms for the school.

Chiraa Secondary School is one of the growing and developing schools that the Minister for Basic, Secondary and Girl-child Education, Hon. Christine Churcher visited during her tour to the Brong Ahafo Region recently.

Hon. Churcher assured the school of government's support in ensuring effective and quality education in distressed schools in the rural areas.
