Barber remanded in custody for assault

Accra, May 15, GNA - An Accra Circuit Tribunal on Monday remanded in custody a 20-year-old barber who inflicted cutlass wounds on a man resident at Christian Village in Accra.

Ben Kitisu, 20, pleaded not guilty to assault, causing harm, unlawful entry and causing damage. Two other accomplices, Nicholas Hodanu, 21, and Kitisu Tedey Junior, 18, also pleaded not guilty to the charge. They were granted 10 million cedis bail each to reappear on May 29.

Police Chief Inspector Florence Arday told the tribunal, chaired by Mrs Elizabeth Anderson Yebuah, that the accused persons and Mr Effah live at Christian Village with their parents, who are locked in a dispute over a parcel with the complainant.

Chief Inspector Arday said on April 16, this year, Mr Effah met Kitisu and asked him why he had asked his mother not to set foot on the disputed land and threatened her with death.

The prosecutor said the situation degenerated into a fight between Kitisu and Mr Effah and were joined by Hodanu and Tedey. During the fight, Tedey pulled out a chisel from his pocket and gave it to Ben to stab Mr Effah, adding that they all had injuries during a struggle but were separated by some people.

Inspector Arday said a few minutes after they were separated, Kitisu went for a cutlass and chased Mr Effah who took refuge in the room of a witness in the case.

Kitisu, who was bent on killing Mr Effah, sneaked into the room and damaged the witness' items, poured his palm soup away and inflicted cutlass wounds on him.

The witness later went to the room and found Mr Effah unconscious with multiple wounds on him and rushed him to the hospital.
