‘Bagbin, Mensah-Bonsu have outlived usefulness’

An aide to the executive chairman of the State Enterprises Commission (SEC) Dr Camynta Baezie has thrown punches at the Majority Leader in Parliament Alban Bagbin, claiming he has outlived his stay in the lawmaking chamber.

Nana Kwaku Okyere whose boss is contesting the veteran MP in the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries for the Nadowli-Kaleo seat, believes the time has come for the young ones to represent the party in Parliament.

Bagbin, who has been in Parliament since 1993, is seeking for re-election, but that has been met with stiff opposition within the rank and file of the NDC in the constituency.

The minority leader of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has been campaigning for him and holding media interviews to canvass for votes for his friend.

However, speaking to Accra-based Kasapa FM, Okyere took a swipe at the two lawmakers, saying they have run out of ideas.

“They have outlived their usefulness and lack ideas,” Okyere opined. “They also went to Parliament without experience and have now gained it so they should make way for fresh ones.”

He claimed: “Bagbin has lost focus for allowing the Minority Leader whose party is also collapsing to campaign for him. The indigenes should be campaigning for him. If the minority leader has any counsel he should go and give it to Akufo-Addo and his collapsing NPP.

“Mensah Bonsu knows Akufo-Addo will lose and Bagbin is aware Mahama is not going to give him any appointment, so he is going to help him [Bagbin] win so that they connive to make things difficult for the president in Parliament when it comes to passing of bills.

“Bagbin has failed the people. He just began digging bore holes in the constituency.”
