The 50-year-old former Ghana international has expressed his delight upon news that the local top-flight will start over the weekend

Former Ghana star and president of professional footballers association, Anthony Baffoe, says he is happy with the news that the Ghana Premier League will finally kick off next weekend.

The league was billed to start in December last year but legal tussles between Techiman City and Wa African United as well as Tema Youth FC and Dreams FC hindered it.

“I am happy that Ghana Premier League is finally going to start. I was in Dawu [last weekend] to watch Dreams and Hearts of Oak and the stadium was filled to capacity,” Baffoe told Citi FM.

“Buts it’s very important we place emphasis on security and match organisation.

“I can see that people are itching for the Premier League season and I hope we have improved attendance on match venues,” he added.

Holders Ashantigold will start their title defence with a home game against Medeama SC on February 21 while giants Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak will play Wafa and Edubiase United respectively.

There will be matches at five other centres.
