Baba Rahman involved in car crash

The Ghana and Augsburg left-back has had an accident in Accra and required medical attention

According to reports in Germany, Abdul Rahman Baba has been involved in a car collision during his summer holiday in Accra.

Speaking to Bild, the left-back explained the incident, in which the vehicle he was driving in hit a stationary car on a road just outside the Ghanaian capital.

"It was dark and I did not see the car at first,” Baba began, “when I slammed the brake it was too late."

The defender had a lucky escape, and while he suffered injuries to his face, which will require treatment by stitches, he was protected by both his airbag and the fact he was wearing his seatbelt.

Marks Weinzierl—the coach of Baba’s current club, Augsburg—admitted how concerned he was when he heard the news about his player’s accident.

"That could have ended really bad[ly],” the coach began.

“We are happy to have him back."

It remains to be seen how long Baba will remain under Weinzierl’s charge; the defender has been linked with various major clubs following his excellent performances in the Bundesliga last term.

He was influential as the Fuggerstadter enjoyed a historic campaign, securing a first-ever Europa League qualification, and his superb showings have attracted attention.

Chelsea are understood to be keen on the full-back, while Juventus, Arsenal and Manchester City are all also believed to be keeping tabs on the defender.

ESPN report that Augsburg chief Klaus Hofmann is eyeing a fee of €20 million for the player, and an official approach is expected imminently.

The defender’s agent has confirmed that Baba is not concerned about moving to Stamford Bridge only to be benched as a backup to Cesar Azpilicueta, and the left-sider certainly appears open to a move to a bigger stage.
