Atta Mills Can't Be Serious - Gov't Spokesman

Government Spokesman, Mr Kwabena Agyapong, has lambasted the aspiring National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer for the 2004 elections, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, saying that (Mills) can not be serious when he recently claimed that he is going to unseat President Kufour in the next elections.

He asserted that Ghanaians have seen the good work the NPP Government has done so far under President John Agyekum Kufour and therefore could not allow anybody or groups of persons to derail the course of real economic recovery. Mr Agyapong disclosed this during an exclusive interview with The Crusading Guide in Accra, in reaction to Professor Mills’ claim during a press conference he held in Accra to express his willingness to offer himself once again as the Presidential Candidate of the NDC, subject to approval by the party. According to Agyapong, President Kufour is more focused and poised to go to battle with any opponents come December 2004.

The Government Spokesman said Ghanaians voted out the NDC-under Mr Jerry John Rawlings – because his 19 years of uninterrupted rule could not improve their socio-economic well-being. He emphasised that Ghanaians are not fools to give the mandate to a group of people who came to mismanage the national economy. Mr Kwabena Agyapong mentioned the reduction of inflation, poverty, armed robbery and assistance accorded small-scale entrepreneurs in their firm resolve to revamp the seriously mangled economy.

He advised Atta Mills, who was also the former vice President, to use his energy after his one year’s lectureship in a Canadian University – more profitably “rather than dreaming of unseating a visionary, disciplined and competent leader like President John Agyekum Kufour.
