Assembly members demand accountability from MP

Some assembly members in the Ayensuano District Assembly are demanding that their Member of Parliament (MP) give a detailed account of the use of his MP’s Common Fund.

The assembly members believed that their MP, Mr Samuel Ayeh-Paye had not been fair to them in the disbursement of the MP’s Common Fund.

Majority of the assembly members raised the red flag at the close of the 2019 budget hearing to deliberate on the assembly’s projects for next year at Coaltar.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Edward Amaadi Antwi who doubles as the Presiding Member and Assembly Member for Teacher Mante, expressed worry about the refusal of the MP to attend general meetings of the assembly.

He said such meetings were the best platforms to explain issues to members of the house for them to have a fair understanding of how the fund is utilised in the district.

Mr Antwi suggested that out of the four meetings organised in the year, the MP had attended two and it would have helped him to clear doubts on certain issues.

Mr Christian Tetteh Annor, Assembly Member for Anum Apapam North, said they have heard the MP speak on several platforms concerning projects he has undertaken with the Common Fund, but the constituents have not witnessed such projects.

“He is our MP, we cannot do away with him, we are pleading with him to avail himself, because, the constituency is bedevilled with lots of challenges and we need all major stakeholders to discuss and find possible solutions to our problems”, he added.
