Assembly Provides Seedlings To Communities

Zabzugu (N/R), - The Zabzugu/Tatale District Assembly has purchased 5,000 teak seedlings to be supplied to communities and schools as part of its afforestation programme. The national mobilisation programme and the forestry department has also assisted the district to establish about 500 acres of community woodlot. Mr. Mohammed Azonko Assibi, district co-ordinating director, said this at the launching of the district's forestry week at Zabuzugu yesterday. Village environmental committees have been formed to educate and create environmental awareness, he said, and called for support to help save the environment. Mr. Assibi expressed concern about the indiscriminate felling of trees and appealed to the chiefs, opinion leaders and members of the district interim management committee to encourage the people to plant trees.
