Asantehene speaks hausa while expressing his affection for northerners

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has expressed his fondness for northerners in a very unique, relatable way; speaking in their native language ‘Hausa'.

During a durbar marking the celebration of his 25th anniversary on the throne, the Asantehene said the Ashantis have lived in harmony with different tribes of people from the northern parts of the country, particularly since the Ashanti Region was created.

While lauding the different tribes in the country, he said "... when we were young, whenever we broke our legs, we went to the Moshie chief to fix it. All of us, including the Hausas, we lived in harmony. When we were young, we used to say in Hausa, 'for the sake of God, truthfully, everybody likes good things.' I am saying this because everyone knows that we the Ashantis love people.”

The Asantehene kicked off his anniversary celebrations with the launch of a book on Otumfuo Sir Agyeman Prempeh II, followed by a grand food fair (Feast Ghana) held at Manhyia.

However, pockets of party paraphernalia were observed among some celebrants, prompting the committee to discourage such behaviour at upcoming events.

April 24 marked the celebration of the 'Ahohor Durbar,' where people from all over the world paid homage to the Asantehene.

This event coincided with Awukudae, a significant occasion in Asante culture.

Remaining programs include the 'Fireworks Night,' scheduled for Thursday, April 25, 2024, followed by a musical concert and a grand non-denominational church service to be held at Dwabrem on Friday, April 26, marking the exact date the Asantehene ascended the throne 25 years ago.
