Asantehene arrives in UK for Honorary Doctorate

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene has safely arrived in UK from US. The flight from New York's JK Kennedy airport, which was delayed, finally touched down at London Heathrow amidst rain and shine, typical of UK weather. He was met on arrival by Mr Chris Kpodo, Ghana's Acting High Commissioner to UK.

Otumfuo, who will be in UK for 2 weeks, receives an honorary doctorate from the 550-year old University of Glasgow, Scotland, on Thursday 21st June. The University also confers a similar degree on Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales on the same day.

Asantehene leaves for Scotland on Tuesday, accompanied by members of the Board of Trustees of the Otumfuo Education Fund. On Thursday, a religious service will be held in the morning before the 11th 55 Jubilee the ceremony at UK's fourth oldest University commences at 11am. Established in 1451, the University of Glasgow is the fourth oldest in UK after Oxford and Cambridge in England and St Andrews in Scotland.

Otumfuo returns to London in time for the next Akwasidee in the Akan customary calendar, which falls on Sunday 24th June. On Saturday 30th June, the Kumasi Club, of which Otumfuo is the Life patron, holds a dinner-dance in his honour at the Banqueting Suite at the Lord's Cricket grounds in North West London. Asantehene returns to Ghana on 1st July.
