Asantehene Pledges Accountability

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has assured contributors to the Otumfuo Education Fund that there will be transparency and accountability in the administration of the Fund.

He said contributors would be informed about how the fund has so far been disbursed adding that preparation of accounts of the Fund was underway. In an apparent response to critics and concerns raised about disbursement of the fund, the Asantehene explained that the measure was to ensure transparency in the operations of the Fund and for contributors to the scheme to appreciate the fact that moneys were been judiciously utilized.

The King gave the assurance when the Asanteman ?Kroye Kuo? (Society) of Berlin, Germany, presented 15 million cedis to the Fund at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

The donation brings to 26 million cedis the society?s contribution to the Fund, having donated 11 million cedis two years ago. Otumfuo Osei Tutu commended members of the Society for contributing to the development of education in the country. He also advised them to visit home regularly to support the development of their areas.

An executive member of the society who made the presentation on behalf of the members, Mrs Comfort Owusu-Boampong said the setting up of the fund was laudable because it would reduce illiteracy.
