Annan To Visit Eight African Countries

United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan is to begin a tour of eight African countries from April 29, his office announced.

The 12-day trip will take him to Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Kenya and Tanzania. He will also visit Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi.

Annan recently travelled to the Middle East and Europe where he met with various leaders and discussed important regional peace issues.

His African trip is expected to deal with developmental and peace matters in the most troubled areas of the continent.

Only last week, Annan presented to the Security Council a report on the causes of conflicts in Africa and made recommendations on their resolutions.

The report is expected to guide the council in seeking solutions to African problems.
