....And the floods receded as president Mills prayed - Baba Jamal

Flood victims in the Eastern Region have the ‘miracles’ of President John Mills to thank for after his prayer averted what could easily have been a national catastrophe.

According to a Deputy Information Minister, Baba Jamal, the presence of the Lord abounded when President Mills looked at the floods he had had to cross by a canoe, lifted his face up to the heavens and prayed for God to be merciful. In a short while, God responded favourably.

Speaking on Peace FM on Wednesday, the Deputy Information Minister recounted the glorious miracle of the president when he arrived at the flood-wrecked communities in the Eastern Region.

According to Jamal after days of assurances by experts and technical men that the flood would recede but to no avail, the President decided to visit the communities and see the wreckage for himself.

On reaching the Kwaebibrim district, one of the affected communities, the president wore his Wellington boots, sat in a canoe, lifted his head in prayer and asked God for mercy.

Twenty four hours later, the flood which needed canoes to cross had receded miraculously with taxis plying the same roads they had been unable to ply.

“That is why we say we are very proud to be with the president,” he said, adding, “The presence of the Lord was there.”

Weeks of heavy downpour broke the banks of the Birim River and flooded several communities in the Eastern Region.

Five lives were lost to the floods and thousands of others displaced.

The Deputy Minister further commended President Mills for his rapid response in dealing with the flood situation.

He is convinced that the impact of the floods on the residents would have been less if the military had been adequately equipped.

According to him one of the aircraft which could hang in air for close to 12 hours would have been used to rescue the victims.
