An airport is not like a car that can be used immediately - Kennedy Kankam replies Asiedu Nketiah

A former MP for Nhyiaeso in the Ashanti Region, Kennedy Kankam, has responded to Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the NDC National Chairman, regarding his critique of the inauguration of Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi.

He stated that after an airport's completion, engineers need time to test the equipment to confirm its operational efficiency.

The former MP noted that the ongoing evaluations at the Kumasi International Airport are the reason it wasn't opened for public use after its commissioning by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In an interview with Onua FM and monitored by GhanaWeb, Kankam emphasized that an airport, unlike a car, cannot be utilized immediately after it is commissioned.

"An airport isn't like a car that's ready to use right after production. Post-construction, there's a period for installing and testing equipment before commencing operations... Considering the existing old airport, it's illogical to buy new machines for the new one.

"If you construct a terminal without allowing technicians to evaluate the systems, it could lead to a plane crash. Similarly, renting a room requires time to move in your belongings," he explained.

His comment is in response to criticism by the National Chairman of the NDC regarding the Prempeh I International Airport after it was commissioned.

"If it had been completed, aeroplanes would have landed there. It's like making fufu without soup and asking us to eat. I've already mentioned that the president's judgment should be examined.

"There are bulldozers working everywhere, and you're telling me it's finished," Asiedu Nketiah stated in a video posted by Nana Yaa Brefo on her Instagram page.

The commissioning of the airport took place on Friday, May 10, 2024.
