Amartey to play key Leicester role if N'Golo Kante leaves

Daniel Amartey will play a key player role for Leicester City next season if in-demand midfielder N'Golo Kante leaves the English Premier League champions.

The Frenchman has caught the eye of the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea through his impressive showing for the Foxes this term.

This has sparked fears that Kante will leave the club in the summer as the interested clubs are reported to be lining up big offers for the midfielder.

The Ghana defender, who excelled in midfield for Danish giants Copenhagen before switching to the Foxes in January, has been pencilled down to replace the French player.

Coach Claudio Ranieri views Amartey as the player who can easily slot into Kante's position having played in that position with the rich experience of playing in a similar role in the UEFA Champions League for FC Copenhagen.

Kante joined the Foxes from Caen last summer, and many doubted his potential to adapt to the English game.

However, he has come out with flying colours and this has earned him plaudits from one and all in the top flight.

Recent speculation had suggested that the 25-year-old could seek a fresh challenge at a bigger club even though there is the prospect of a Champions League adventure with the East Midlands side.

Kante was recently voted Leicester City's Player's Player of the Season at the end-of-season awards.
