All arrears with Single Spine cleared – Terkper

Finance minister Seth Terkper has said claims by the government that the economy is getting back on track is real and not propaganda.

According to him, the Mahama-led administration has cleared all arrears with the single spine salary structure, which has been a major point of frustration between government and labour.

In a series a of tweets Saturday, Mr Terkper who disclosed that he has been an assemblyman for eight years also raised concerns with the country’s property tax system.

“I was an assembly man for 8 yrs. Our property tax system has become weak, especially areas with commercial properties. We need to fix that.

“The turnaround in the economy is real. We have paid the single spine arrears, cleared subsidies and the prospects are improving. We are seeing the recovery... We are seeing major investments,” the economist wrote.

Ghana is in a three-year fiscal bailout arrangement with the International monetary fund (IMF). The government has maintained the move is to enhance policy credibility and not an admission of failure on the economic front.
