Akufo-Addo dreads a Zanetor win?

For not towing the line of her immediate lineage in canvassing support for his third and possibly last presidential bid, National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate for Klottey Korle, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings has incurred the wrath of Nana Akufo-Addo.

As punishment for her perceived intransigence not doing the bidding of her parents, the 2016 flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo, has confessed praying for Dr Zanetor to lose the Klottey Korle seat to his party’s candidate, Lawyer Philip Addison.

Even though the NPP flag bearer opened up on her likeness for the medical-trained daughter of his one time bitter political rival now turned-amiable-bedfellow, MrRawlings; Nana Akufo-Addo publicly stated that he does not wish the NDC parliamentary candidate succeeds at the polls.

In a recent interview on Metro TV, the NPP flag bearer acknowledged Dr Zanetor’s “powerful family background”, but was quick to add, “I don’t want her to win, nevertheless; she is welcome to politics.”

Nana Addo noted, “For me if a young person like Zanetor takes an interest in politics, she’s very welcome. I welcome her to the political scene. It’s always good to see young people get involved in this political process.”

The NPP flag bearer’s doom and gloom wish for Dr. Zanetor comes as a surprise to many especially when the NDC candidate’s family has of late buried their age long differences with him, and rumored to be working in his interest to topple the John Mahama government in this year’s election.

Both former President Rawlings and his better half, Nana Konadu have in recent time not hidden their admiration for Nana Akufo-Addo and have openly chosen him ahead of John Mahama.

The Rawlingses dislike for the NPP standard bearer got to its peak in 2008 when the former president publicly refused to mention Nana Akufo-Addo by name, but chose to refer to him as “that short man”.

But in a surprise move to advance the cause of an Akufo-Addo presidency after this year’s election, Mr Rawlings and his wife have intensified their crusade against the party they founded and have not missed any opportunity berating the NDC over allegations of corruption and incompetence.

Even though her daughter is contesting the Klottey Korle parliamentary seat on the ticket of the NDC, Nana Konadu has been relentless in his call on Ghanaians to vote out the governing party.

This strange dalliance between the Rawlingses and Nana Addo also comes at a time media reports suggest Kimathi Rawlings, the only son of the former first couple, is nursing the desire to marry Adriana Dukua Akufo-Addo, one of the daughters of Nana Akufo Addo.

Though both families have flatly denied any romantic affairs between the two when The aL-hAJJ first broke the news, there are reports the two love birds are frantically preparing to have their love lust consummated.

Nana Akufo-Addo was once reported in the media to have said he would not have any problem with his daughter dating the son of former President Jerry Rawlings.

“Well, I heard the rumors because it was all over the place and so I asked her directly if it was true that she was dating Rawlings’s son and she denied it completely,” Nana Addo was quoted to have said.

This, many say, may account for the former first family’s new found warm relation with their once foremost foe.

Perhaps, being the only “dark horse” in her family not to have joined the Akufo-for-President project, the NPP flag bearer is praying for his lawyer, Philip Addison to defeat Dr Zanetor.
