Akufo-Addo confident of Plan International’s commitment to grassroot development

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has acknowledged the good work that Plan International Ghana has been doing over the years.

He said that there is so much that Plan International Ghana and the Government can do to alleviate poverty especially among marginalized groups.

While interacting with the Country Director of Plan International Ghana, Madam Fadimata Alainchar during a courtesy visit to the office of the President at the Flagstaff House, he expressed confidence in Plan International Ghana’s commitment to rural development in Ghana and called for more collaborative initiatives between the government and International Non-Governmental agencies in Ghana.

He said the One-Village- One Dam is at his heart and he is eager to see it materialize.

Briefing on Plan International Ghana’s work

Madam Fadimata Alainchar briefed the President about the work that Plan International Ghana has been doing in rural communities over the past 23 years and shared relevant areas and achievements in education, health, WASH, child protection and economic security. Key among the issues discussed was Plan International Ghana’s dam construction in the Tumu area in the Upper West Region of Ghana.

She indicated that the Government’s initiative of one-village-one-dam is very laudable. However this will require effective community and youth mobilization to enable the Government achieve its objectives. She intimated that Plan International Ghana has the relevant experience and expertise in community and youth mobilization and can collaborate with the Government in this regard.

Way Forward

The President urged Plan International Ghana to collaborate with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (the Minister was present) to support more marginalized groups and children especially girls to reach their potential.

Present at the meeting was the Programme Support Manager for Strategy, the Child Protection Specialist and the Communications Specialist of Plan International Ghana.
