Ako Adjei Honoured

The Conference of the Methodist Church, Ghana has honoured Dr. Ebenezer Ako Adjei, the only surviving member of the Big Six, by naming the Conference Hall of the Reverend Peter Kwei Dagadu Memorial Methoist Church at Osu after him.

It is in recognition of his support to the Osu Branch in particular and Ghana in general and also for his love for mankind as well as his quest for the spread of Christianity.

The ceremony, which also saw the official opening and dedication of the church, coincided with Dr. Ako Adjei's 84th birthday celebrations.

It was witnessed by leading members of the Methodist Church as well as a large number of his family members. A citation read by the Rt. Rev. Albert 0. Wright, Administrative Bishop of the Church, said the Methodist Church has followed the history of Dr. Ako Adjei's life with much admiration and expressed thanks to the Lord that he is the only surviving member of the Big Six.

It said the church owes him a huge debt of gratitude for the role he played in the establishment of the branch at Osu, adding, "you are indeed a blessing to the Methodist Church, Ghana." According to the citation, before the establishment of the church at Osu, Methodist who lived in the area travelled to other parts of the city to worship.

In 1972, church services were conducted at the Women's Hall of the Christian Council of worship. When Dr. Ako Adjei was contacted, he immediately commenced his personal enquiries and searches until he finally found a piece of land and made it available to the church.

"That piece of land is the land on which this church stands today. It was simply an ultimate site to locate a church, with large car parking facilities and the Ako Adjei Park available next door for any outdoor activities of the church."

The citation said "Dr. Ako Adjei offered his house freely for the storage of all the building materials, accepted the attendant nuisance associated with the building projects seeing the progress of the building.

Dr. Ako Adjei, the entire Methodist Church, Ghana extend to you our fullest gratitude and well wishes for a long and prosperous life. May the Lord continuously make his face shine upon you and your entire family and give peace."
